One of the best yet least known, Pench Tiger reserve gives a high chance of tiger spotting. This tiger reserve is thought to have inspired Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book yet is probably the least known national parks in Madhya Pradesh. Tiger is the main cat species of the park present in good numbers. In addition to its cats, the park is home to 32 other mammal species living among its moist deciduous forests, meadows, river and lakeside habitats, plus nearly 200 bird species. Its tiger population includes Tigress Collarwali or Queen of Pench born in 2005. She is a celebrity tigress who played as a child cub character in BBC’s famous documentary Tiger Spy in the Jungle.
Nagpur is the closest airport to the national park with an approximately 2 hours journey time. Clearly, this makes it an easy add on to your North India or South India tour. On the other hand, if you are on an exclusive tiger spotting tour, Pench tiger reserve can be a good addition to your itinerary.
