Located in the state of Kerala, Kumarakom is rightly referred to as Gods own country. Blessed with scenic landscapes the real beauty of this place can be seen in the lush green paddy fields, mangrove forests, and waterways. Vembanad Lake nearby is Kerala’s largest lake and possibly the longest lake in India. A vast range of flora and fauna can be seen on this island which make it a naturalists delight. The name Kumaramom cames from Lord Kumaran who was worshipped here. The Vadakkancore kingdom ruled this area in the initial period. An important point of interest is the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, where a significant number of bird species are known to make migratory visits. The park area covers around 15 acres and functions under the aegis of the government of Kerala.
