There are many reasons to visit the East Coast of Sri Lanka. It is emerging as an appealing destination with a growing boutique hotel industry and unique weather. You can explore Hindu temples, colonial architecture, beautiful scenery, and fishing villages. The improved transport links make it more accessible. Additionally, during certain months, you can enjoy whale watching with sightings of blue and sperm whales.
The best beaches on the east coast of Sri Lanka for holidays are Nilaveli in the north, Pasikudah and Batticaloa in the middle, and Arugam Bay in the south. These locations offer excellent hotels and beach resorts that cater to all types of travelers. There are also miles of untouched and undeveloped coastline waiting to be explored outside of these areas.
Nilaveli, near Trincomalee, is perfect for families as it provides snorkeling opportunities and whale and dolphin watching trips. Pasikudah is known as the best beach on the east coast, while nearby Batticaloa is famous for its large lagoon. Unfortunately, there is no snorkeling or whale watching available in that area.
