How do we get to the country? Is there a direct flight?
Male, the main international airport is well connected to main European cities. Flights via Dubai and other UAE airports offer suitable flying options. Direct flight would take approximately 11 hours. Many Indian cities such as Delhi, Cochin, Chennai and Mumbai are a short flight away to Maldives and Colombo has a direct flight to Male making it appealing to consider a multi-country holiday combining India and Sri Lanka.
Do I need any specific vaccinations prior to my travel?
Specialised travel-medicine clinics or your GP are your best source of up-to-date information. They will recommend the requirement for any vaccinations which may be required. Another good source of information is the NHS travel medicine website fitfortravel.nhs.uk. The key for travel vaccinations is to plan early. Most vaccines don’t give immunity until at least two weeks after they’re given and vaccines like diphtheria and tuberculosis require a three-month incubation, so visit your GP well before departure. Ask your GP or travel clinic for an International Certificate of Vaccination (sometimes known as the ‘yellow booklet’), which will list all the vaccinations you’ve received.
Do I require a visa?
British passport holders are granted a 30 day visa on arrival in the Maldives. Your passport should be valid for atleast 6 months from your date of return and have atleast two blank pages. If you are combining your holiday with India or Sri Lanka, you would be required to apply for a visa prior to arrival.
