Stylish and boutique tented camp with a unique location. Situated in a gloriously remote and rural setting in the buffer zone of Pench National Park and with private access to its ‘own’ gate, with no other lodge in sight. Unique ‘star bed’ experience. Ancient banyan tree rooted on a dry riverbed at the centre of the camp makes an interesting ‘get-together’ venue. Jamtara is open from mid-Oct to mid-May and provides the perfect wildlife experience in itself or as a start or end to a more comprehensive wildlife tour through Madhya Pradesh
Your stay will be in one of the 10 wonderfully spacious, stunningly simple well-furnished tents. They are designed to feel light and open, with rustic colonial charm and ensuite bathrooms. Each tent comes with its own private verandah overlooking the forest. Fancy ‘star gazing’ opt for the ‘star bed’ experience. It is the only camp in India which has ‘star beds’ – a raised wooden platform (based on the ‘machaan’ / African idea), out in the countryside. The Star Beds allow you to experience the night in a whole new way. The beds are set high up on stilts so you can either have your fill of star gazing or keep a look out for wildlife. There is a sky scout (star reader) that assists to look out for various constellations. Mosquito netting provided which keeps the bugs away; and quilts and hot water bottles will keep the cold away.
Older children are welcome at the lodge.
There is a dining area which serves continental and local cuisine. There is a small lounge, a swimming pool for end of day splash and a small library to curl up and read.
When you are not out in the park looking for the elusive tiger, you can opt for village walks, walks in buffer zone with experienced naturalists, cookery classes or cycling around.
Try a night under the stars on India’s first ‘star bed’. For romantics, you could opt for a hugely popular romantic bush dinner in the fields!
