The eight colonial-chic suites are named after the women of the Hallock family who have owned this stately house for five generations. With an ebony four-poster bed swathed in crimson drapes, Master Suite Annapuranie is the most theatrical with its private garden and the roll-top tub big enough for two. Split-level Chrysantie has an inviting sofa bed on a mezzanine; although smaller, the ground-floor Vasanthi and Anithra suites have imposing king-size beds and secret gardens to lounge in.
Children are welcome, and can sleep comfortably on the sofa beds. The restaurant has high chairs and can adapt their menu for picky eaters.
The freshwater pool at the Maniumpathy may be small, but the relaxing courtyard, inviting sunloungers and masses of tropical foliage make it a picturesque spot for a cooling dip. The sitting room is sprinkled with magazines and books, a long hall with formal dining for 18, a serene garden edged by tropical foliage with swimming pool, and a courtyard for al fresco dining. Bars, cafes, restaurants, shops and galleries are a stroll or a short taxi ride away.
