After the festivities in December and having to cater to your family and friends its time to treat yourself in January and escape the dreary winter month and head east for an Indian holiday.
India: January is an excellent time of year to visit India. North India (except the Himalayas where it can still be very cold) offers endless possibilities with comfortable daytimes of around 25 degrees celsius and cooler nights. It’s a perfect time to explore the Rajasthan or Golden Triangle or wilderness in Central India. South India is an absolutely perfect destination in January with warm but not too hot temperatures. You are guaranteed a fantastic boast of sunshine with tropical beaches of Goa and Kerala with their warm seas perfect for swimming, long sandy beaches and sunshine of around 9hrs a day without a cloud in the sky. For an island escape, consider Andaman Islands for a perfect retreat.
Sri Lanka: January is one of the best all-around months to visit Sri Lanka, as most areas like the Cultural Triangle and Kandy have warm and dry weather. Tea Country is usually cooler due to its elevation. The south and west coasts have lots of sun and little rain, but the east coast has more rain. Average temperatures during the month are around 30°C.
Bhutan: January may be the coldest month, but it’s a great and popular time to visit Bhutan. Why? The stunning Himalayan landscape is crystal clear, offering amazing views. Although much of the country has frosty ground and higher areas may have snow, the subtropical south and valleys are usually warmer.
Nepal: Travel to Nepal in January is less busy. Remember to bring warm clothes for cold evenings and mornings, as temperatures often reach near zero, even in Kathmandu. Despite the cold, it’s still a good time to go, especially if you like exploring cultural wonders and observing unique wildlife rather than hiking. Fewer tourists during this period make the attractions less crowded.
